iOS does not let keyboards record audio — only apps can. So the first time in a session, Voicetation opens briefly to start the microphone, and you tap back to return. After that a small floating window keeps the session alive, and you can dictate without leaving the app you are in.
Full Access is what lets the keyboard talk to the Voicetation app to hand off recording and receive your text back, and it is what lets the AI correction features reach the network. Without it the keyboard still works for typing — pinyin, swipe, autocorrect and word suggestions all run on your device — but voice input and AI correction are unavailable. Text in password fields is never sent anywhere, under any setting. See the Privacy Policy for exactly what is and is not sent.
iOS has a system-wide switch that controls it. In the Settings app: General → Picture in Picture → Start PiP Automatically. It needs to be on. If the window still does not appear, you can switch to Voice Standby mode in Voicetation under Home → Mode.
Yes — tap the ↩ button on the keyboard's top bar right after text appears, and you get the original transcription back.
Typing does, completely: pinyin, swipe input, English autocorrect, and word suggestions are all on-device. Voice input falls back to Apple's on-device speech engine when you have no connection, which is less accurate than the online one but works.
Settings → AI → AI text correction. Turning it off stops both dictation correction and typing correction, and stops any text being sent for correction. Rewrite and Translate only ever run when you tap ✨ or 🌐.
Delete the app as usual. Everything stored on your device — settings, your dictionary, learned words — is removed with it. There is no account, so there is nothing else to close.
